In preparation for pirate day this weekend (Sunday 22nd July) on Hastings beach, there are many a goings on. Hastings Online Times has a ditty with instructions for all wanna be pirates and details on events.

For things more photographic in nature (although distinctly lacking any pirates) is a chance to see Alec Soth's film tomorrow "'Somewhere to Disappear', the film that journeys with BPB 2010 artist Alec Soth as he made 2008's 'Broken Manual' will be showing at Bold Tendencies in Peckham tomorrow. Tickets are free, but you must book - see you there! http://boldtendencies.com/projects/SP6/events/cbm-film-screening-alec-soth-somewhere-disappear Take a look at him in conversation with Martin Parr regarding his 2010 Brighton Photo Biennial commission here: http://www.photoworks.org.uk/profile/alec-soth"

The photo fringe is getting closer and BPF continues to update on available venues (see facebook or website for details - links are on the right) and The Brighton Photo Fringe are delighted to announce that they are now a registered charity, this is "a great step in the development of the organisation!" (BPF).

The second Mini-Click talk in Brighton this month is on Monday "...For our second talk in July, we welcome Portrait Salon down to Brighton for "An evening with Portrait Salon", where salon creators James O Jenkins and Carole Evans have curated an evening featuring talks by 5 photographer's who were selected for last year's salon. The photographers are Jean-Luc Brouard, Nicola Tree, Adrain Nettleship, Travis Hodges and Julia Johnson. The talk is on Monday 23rd July and entry is free. Doors are at 6:30pm with the talk starting around 7:30pm."

Have a good weekend, but go careful if you're planning to venture out near Hastings...them pirates are a menacing bunch.
