July talk - Monday 2nd

| |
The next Photology talk is on Monday, 2nd July at Bullet Coffee House, Robertson St Hastings at 8pm. Admission £3.

July's speaker is Wendy Pye who will talk about her ongoing personal project Beachy Head, a sensitive body of work that has evolved over five years that focuses on the well-known natural beauty spot and location for suicide in south east England.

From documenting the shrines left in memory of people, who have jumped from this sheer cliff, she will also be showing her recently completed short experimental film, Six Feet from the Edge (2011)that surveys the interaction between people and the cliff edge of Beachy Head.

Throughout the project reference is made to thresholds, often in terms of metaphysical or psychological states, as for example, the transformation between living and dying. At the same time, physical thresholds between land and sea, such as the cliff edge, represent a literal and metaphorical dropping off point.

Wendy Pye is a photographic artist & lecturer who studied photography and film at the University of Westminster and completed her MA in photographic arts at The London College of Communication in 2008. She lives and works in Brighton.

(This is a change to the previously published schedule. Simon Roberts will now be speaking in December).
