It is the last day of the New York Photography Festival today - still with lectures to be heard and exhibitions to be seen in its final hours. The festival has also launched a site for upcoming photographic artists, which includes interviews on e-photo review, a new online community and blog. A chance to share your project, it uses an interview format to discuss and talk about your work, see site for submission criteria.
It's also the last day for submissions to Foto8 Summershow at HOST Gallery, before entry fees rise from £20 to £30, although you can submit work until the end of the month.
Today also marks the end of Eastbourne Festival with closing events here. Meanwhile, Brighton Festival gets under way and exhibitions are announced for Venice Biennale which opens shortly.
New exhibitions opening in the UK this week include: Tracy Emin at the Hayward Gallery, London; Angie Atmadjaja at the Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester; Anni Albers, Mead Gallery, Warwick Arts Centre; and Mark Lecky, Serpentine Gallery, London. More photographic leanings include Alex Webb's publication which is reviewed by Geoff Dyer. It's also members week at the V&A with exhibitions including The Cult of Beauty; Yohji Yamamoto; Figures and Fictions; and the Dance Photography of Chris Nash.
Michael Hoppen Contemporary also opened this weekend with photographs by Simon Norfolk, taken of the war in Afghanistan. Influenced by John Burke (1843-1900), the first ever photographer to make pictures in Afghanistan. Michael Hoppen Contemporary showcases work by Simon Norfolk, commissioned by Tate Modern. Responding to Burke's work, Norfolk has taken references from these original images.
